I’ve been meaning to post this since I took this picture on the day of the Prague Full Marathon in May. Now is a good time to come back to it as me, JS and MG prepare to set off to Slovakia to run the Liptovsky Maraton (or in my case half) in Liptovsky Mikulas.
So this is my race kit as prepared for the Prague Full Marathon in May this year. There are two things to note: it was the middle of May so the weather was nice and it was Prague so I was only travelling 15 minutes from my house to the start. Clearly a longer journey, overnight stay or poorer weather would change what was packed.
If you click the photo it’ll take you to flickr to see the photo with the items described below tagged in the photo.
- Racewear – funky two-layer running socks that take ages to put on but are comfy, special running undercrackers, shorts from cupboard, long sleeve and short sleeve wicking t-shirts (this turned out to be a mistake in this race).
- Buff – hat, bandana, sweatband and victory flag, in one.
- Sweatand.
- Race number, safety pins and start instructions / map.
- Vaseline – for things that rub.
- Sticking plasters – for things that rub more.
- Suncream – ever the optimist.
- Ibuprofen – this is controversial I know, but I’m in the ‘never for training, ok in a race’ camp on this one.
- Sunglasses and retainer.
- Watch.
- Nikeplus sensor – know how far and how fast during the race and for pretty graphs afterwards.
- iPod Nano, case, Sennheiser headphones.
- Food – for before, during and after the race, gel packs, energy drinks, snickers, muesli bar, honey (a friend gave me this didn’t try this in the end).
- Buff – Towel, hanky, hat or bandana for afterwards.
- Clean / dry shirt for afterwards – in this case a raceday t-shirt to be worn AFTER the race.
- Race bag – as in many races, the bag drop in Prague would only accept the bag they provided.
- (Missing from picture) Two litres of fluid – hydration for before and afterwards.
- (Missing from picture) Running shoes – my trusty Gel Nimbus.
