Well 2010 has been a much better year for running events. With everything going on in 2009 I managed a paultry 3.1 competitive kilometers.
2010 has seen a half marathon PB, my first flat full marathon (and therefore another PB, with another continent bagged) a fun 10k through the historic centre of Prague and now Liptovský Mikulaš.
It’s not that I’m terribly competitive or stand any chance of ever placing in these events. I just like running events, the training, the build-up, the excitement, the camaraderie, the race, the post race party and getting to wear the finishers shirt afterwards.
Liptovský Mikulaš was a great event as it is always even more fun to travel to events, getting to visit funky new places.
Liptovský Mikulaš is a beautiful city standing as a gateway to both the high and low tatra mountains.
The run was a road race but snaking more or less along the shore of the resevoir it offered great views accros the water and into the mountains.
We had a great team with me, JS running his first half, M running a full and providing fab hospitality and E in support.
I ran two hours pretty much on the nose which I’m pretty happy with. The event was just for fun and to run a decent distance just before the winter freeze. Nonetheless 2 hours is actually my second fastest half ever, not too bad considering I didn’t train save for a couple of long runs and the course, while calling it hilly would be a streach after the Great Wall, is certainly not flat.
